During his attendance at the 81st Session of ESCAP, Mr. Ye Xuenong, Permanent Representative of China to ESCAP, clarified China's position on the United States' arbitrary imposition of tariffs and solemnly refuted the unfounded accusations by the United States.

Mr. Ye pointed out that China firmly opposes and categorically rejects the U.S. unfounded accusations against China. As a responsible major power, China actively practices the concept of free trade, earnestly fulfills all its commitments to WTO, continuously expands market access, increases imports, and protects intellectual property rights. It has never adopted so-called systematic unfair trade measures against the United States.

Out of selfish interests, the United States weaponizes tariffs to exert maximum pressure for selfish interests. This is to put U.S. interests above the common good of the international community, and advance U.S. hegemonic ambitions at the cost of the legitimate interests of all countries. The U.S. interpretation of current international economic and trade relations as "unfair and unbalanced" and its pursuit of the so-called "recalibration" run counter to historical logic and completely contradict the basic principles of comparative advantage in Western economics that have stood for more than 200 years. This is a farcical drama of "America opposing America."

China believes that the vast majority of trading partners will stand on the right side of history, jointly oppose U.S. unilateralism, protectionism, and economic bullying, and defend the WTO-centered multilateral trading system. China urges the United States to face up to the rational voices of the international community and within the United States, mend its ways, and return to the right path of resolving differences through mutual respect and equal dialogue.
