Permanent Representative Ye Xuenong Attends the ESCAP 81st Commission Session

From April 21 to 25, Mr. Ye Xuenong, Permanent Representative of China to ESCAP, attended the 81stSession of ESCAPand delivered statements under multiple agenda items.

Mr. Ye noted that the positive momentum of trade and investment facilitation in the Asia-Pacific region is facing a backlash from unilateralism and protectionism.The United States' arbitrary imposition of tariffsseverely infringes upon the legitimate rights and interests of all countries, severely violates WTO rules,severely undermines the multilateral trading system and severely disrupts the global economic order and the world economic recovery process.The Chinese government strongly condemns and resolutely opposes such move.All countries should practice true multilateralism, and defend the U.N.-centered international system and the WTO-centered multilateral trading system.China will continue to advance high-standardopening upto inject lasting momentum into global economic and trade growth.  

Mr. Ye introduced China's achievements and experience in promoting sustainable urban development and put forward suggestions such as strengthening the people-centered philosophy of urban development, improving urban planning and governance capabilities, and enhancing international cooperation.  

Mr. Ye stated that China firmly supports the development efforts of countries in special situations and is willing to work with all members to help relevant countries address challenges and enhance their own development capabilities.  

During the session, Mr. Ye accompanied the ESCAP Executive Secretary Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana to visit an exhibition of photos on China's barrier-free city construction. Mr. Ye also attended side events on smart cities, subsiding cities, sustainable transportation, etc., hosted or co-hosted by China.
