On 12 September, Mr. Ye Xuenong, Permanent Representative of China to ESCAP attended the commemoration in Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation.
Speaking at the panel discussion, Mr. Ye highlighted the tremendous efforts and contributions made by China in South-South cooperation to assist developing countries in Asia and the Pacific promoting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He said that as a member of Global South and the biggest developing country, China has always been committed to promoting and practicing South-South cooperation. The Third Plenary Session of its 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China laid out systematic plans for further deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese modernization. This will profoundly further transform China. It will also provide new opportunities and fresh driving forces for our pursuit of modernization of developing countries. China will continue to be a staunch supporter, active participant and key contributor of South-South cooperation. It will continue to shoulder the international responsibilities commensurate with its development level and capacity, and further expand South-South cooperation so as to promote common development.
The event was jointly organized by ESCAP and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) under the theme “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow” in Bangkok.
