Wang Yi Speaks with Slovenian Foreign Minister Anže Logar on the Phone

On December 1, 2020, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with Slovenian Foreign Minister Anže Logar at the latter's request.

Wang Yi said that the China-Slovenia relations have developed smoothly with solid political mutual trust and strong economic complementarity. 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Slovenia and is also the year when the Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing. Slovenia is a leading winter sporting nation in Europe. China and Slovenia need to reinforce cooperation on Winter Olympic sports, thus contributing to the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic ties, and opening up new prospects for the bilateral relations.

Wang Yi said that the mutual support between China and Slovenia during the fight against COVID-19 has further enriched the bilateral relations. China takes Slovenia's needs of procuring anti-pandemic supplies in China seriously, and will provide all conveniences. China believes that Slovenia will completely defeat the pandemic. China is willing to work with all countries including Slovenia to oppose to any acts of politicization associated with the pandemic, promote the development of global public health, and build a global community of health for all.

Wang Yi said that there are no fundamental conflicts of interest between China and Europe, as our cooperation far exceeds differences. Both China and Europe firmly support multilateralism, the central role of the United Nations in international affairs, and the settlement of disputes by peaceful means. Slovenia will hold the rotating presidency of the European Union (EU) in the second half of next year. China and Europe should enhance dialogue and communication and provide fair, just and non-discriminatory business environment for the enterprises of the other side, in the spirit of equality, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. China hopes that Slovenia will take this opportunity to facilitate the process of European integration, and make even greater progress in the China-Europe relations and the cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries.

Anže Logar appreciated the anti-pandemic supplies and the convenience for its procurement offered by China, and wished the Beijing Winter Olympics a great success. Anže Logar said that Slovenia is ready to make preparations for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic ties with China. Slovenia will hold the rotating presidency of the EU next year. It hopes to take the opportunity of advancing the agendas of combating climate change and preserving biodiversity, to strengthen the cooperation with China and push forward the comprehensive strategic partnership between Europe and China. China plays an important role in handling global issues. Without the participation of China, it is impossible to confront any global challenge. Slovenia believes that Europe and China should abide by the principle of mutual respect and manage their differences in a constructive way. Slovenia has always been committed to advancing the cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries, and believes that this mechanism is a valuable opportunity to carry out mutually beneficial cooperation between Central and Eastern European countries and China, and that it is also conducive to promoting Europe-China cooperation.
